साल 2019 में पायल रोहतगी को विवादित वीडियो (Payal Rohtagi controversial video) बनाने के लिए गिरफ्तार किया गया था तब ये ज्यादा सुर्खियों में आई थीं. 21 सितंबर 2019 को पायल की ओर से एक विडियो बनाया गया था जिसमें मोतीलाल नेहरू और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री जवाहर लाल नेहरू को लेकर पायल ने आपत्तिजनक टिप्पणी की थी. जिसके खिलाफ समाजसेवी और युवा काँग्रेस नेता चरमेश वर्मा ने शिकायत दर्ज की थी. इसके बाद राजस्थान पुलिस द्वारा पायल को गिरफ्तार (Why was Payal Rohtagi jailed?) कर लिया गया था. बाद में पायल ने कहा की वीडियो में दी गई जानकारी उन्होने गूगल से निकली थी. क्या अभिव्यक्ति की आजादी एक मज़ाक है?

इससे पहले एक मई 2019 में ही पायल ने सती प्रथा और राजा राममोहन राय को लेकर विवादित ट्वीट किया था. अपने ट्वीट में इनहोने कहा था “राजा राममोहन राय अंग्रेज़ो के चमचे थे. अंग्रेजों ने राजा राममोहन राय का इस्तेमाल सती प्रथा को बदनाम करने के लिए किया था. सती प्रथा देश में अनिवार्य नहीं थी बल्कि मुगल शासकों द्वारा हिन्दू महिलाओं को वेश्यावृत्ति से बचाने के लिए इस प्रथा को लाया गया था. सती प्रथा महिलाओं की मर्जी से होती थी. सती किसी भी मामले में प्रतिगामी प्रथा नहीं थी.

पायल रोहतगी ने साल 2018 में आई केरल बाढ़ को लेकर भी विवादित बयान दिया था जिसमें पायल ने ट्वीट किया था “केरल में गौ हत्या बैन नहीं है. प्रिय केरलवासियों और वहाँ के नेताओं हिंदुओं की भावनाओं को ठेस पहुंचाना सही नहीं है. अगर आप ऐसा करते हैं तो फिर भगवान भी सरेआम एसी ही सजा देता है. भगवान एक है और आप धार्मिक भावनाओं को ऐसे ठेस नहीं पहुंचा सकते.” उनके इस ट्वीट के बाद ट्विटर यूजर ने उन्हें खूब लताड़ा था.
पायल रोहतगी के इसके अलावा भी कई विवादित ट्वीट और बयान हैं. इससे पहले उन्होने मलाला युसुफ़जई को अपशब्द कहे थे, वीर शिवाजी महाराज की जाति पर सवाल उठाए थे, जोमोटो को सेकुलर आउटलेट कहा था. हाल ही में सुशांत सिंह राजपूत के आत्महत्या पर भी पायल रोहतगी ने कहा की सुशांत की हत्या की गई है और उनके सायकायट्रिस्ट पर गंभीर आरोप लगाए.

पायल रोहतगी की सगाई साल 2014 में भारतीय पहलवान संग्राम सिंह के साथ हिन्दू रीति-रिवाज से हुई थी. इसके बाद इनकी शादी की कई बार खबरे आई लेकिन वर्तमान शादी की कोई खबर नहीं है. इन दोनों को कई टीवी सीरियल में भी साथ देखा गया है.
